INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1)

Use a post emergent herbicide, following all manufacturers’ instructions and then remove the earth to bare ground.

2)

Add soil amendments and plant as usual.

3)

Use a pre-emergent herbicide is recommended, following all manufacturers’ instructions.

4)

Roll out fabric measure and cut to bed.

5)

Slits are cut where fabric will go around base of plants.

6)

Fabric is put in place, tucking under and around plants. A 4” gap is left between the sidewalk and fabric to allow for annual color.

7)

Fabric flaps are pinned into place using GCI Stick Pins.

8)

Annuals are planted between bed and sidewalk. Afterwards, if any spill over, all soil must be removed from the top of the fabric. Add decorative cover (mulch or stone) and be sure to sprinkle pre-emergent herbicide in the mulch or stone to prevent weed seeds that blow into the bed from germinating, follow all manufacturers instructions.

Other Installation Methods

This landscape bed was prepared as above except after planting, fabric was laid over plants and slits were cut where plants were. Then the fabric was pulled over plants and pinned to the ground. This installation variation works well on bigger beds where wider widths of fabric are used. Apply pre-emergent herbicide, following all manufacturers instructions.

Sometimes fabric is installed prior to planting. This is a matter of individual preference. To install fabric in this manner, follow these steps: Apply post emergent herbicide, following all manufacturers instructions and remove earth to bare ground. Add soil amendments. Apply pre-emergent herbicide, following all manufacturers instructions. Apply fabric over area to be planted. Cut an X where plants will go, fold back fabric flaps and plant as usual. Secure fabric to ground with GCI Stick Pins. Add decorative cover and a pre-emergent herbicide, following all manufacturers instructions.
